About Us
Lavender Blue Landscapes specialises in the creation of public and private gardens and landscapes that are timeless, memorable and meaningful. Our work is underpinned by a respect for our built and landscape heritage and much of what we do results in the illumination, appreciation and enjoyment of significant buildings and places.
We work closely with like-minded architects, engineers, interior designers, craftsmen and women, ecologists and many other specialists to deliver well-crafted places. Where a project allows, we create planting schemes that bring nature, delight and dramatic seasonality to the site, producing management plans and working with maintenance staff to ensure longevity of our creations.
Our collective experience and skills across a wide range of media and software allow us to interface with other professionals while assembling planning and listed building applications for our clients and our track record for gaining planning consents in challenging environments is excellent. We offer the full range of design services.
From inception and site assessment through masterplanning and visualisations to construction design, planting design and project management. We also manage other consultants on behalf of the client.

I was fortunate enough to meet Fatima Behardien in 1990 just as she was starting out with her company, Lavender Blue Landscapes. We are both perfectionists, so it was a very fortunate meeting! She is an amazingly talented Landscape Designer who has designed gardens in Cape Town, Johannesburg, Sydney and in Dubai and she’s always up to date with current trends in gardening around the world.
Fatima worked with me over a period of four years, transforming a totally rundown mess (that could not be described in any way as a garden) into a charming country Cape garden.
Our next project was a larger one – an equestrian property with a riding arena, paddocks and a large open garden. She helped me plan so we could achieve an attractive working equestrian property alongside a lovely garden that takes full advantage of Table Mountain views. Using existing vegetation, Fatima redesigned and brought her special flair to the property.
My final adventure with Fatima started with the totally new build of a French style home, elevated with gorgeous mountain views – but on a challenging property as it sloped both forward and sideways with different levels. This was a totally clean slate and she managed to create a framework comprising a top level showcasing the mountain in the foreground, an intimate French garden around the swimming pool area on the side of the property at a different level and a secret forest garden which gave such depth to the property, once again showing off her talent. In addition to designing, Fatima has helped rearrange the maturing garden over the last 20 years and it is a triumph. As a fledgling garden it was beautiful and has just improved and improved over time. She has been an inspiration to me over the years, a fount of knowledge and so easy and inclusive to work with – always happy to brainstorm and hash out new ideas and keep the garden up to date.
Fatima’s expertly trained and experienced crew provides an outstanding service, handling everything from the pruning and weekly feeding and spraying of my garden to all my irrigation needs – which is a bonus as we all know irrigation is in constant need of cleaning and alteration so this service makes it seamless. It’s a pleasure to have her always happy and smiling crew pottering around the garden on their weekly visit. Thank you Fatima for the past 33 years. Bravo!
